MACRITCHIE STAR

Covering MacRitchie's Extensive and Multi-faceted History

Founded in the 19th Century, MacRitchie Reservoir has a history that extends far beyond its function. While it is a signifier for the search for water in land-scarce Singapore during the colonial times, it is also the site that reminds us of Singapore's WWII struggles, which eventually became a place for post-independence cultural developments. These all occupy different eras of Singapore's history, yet occupy the same location.

As such, the MacRitchie Star is a museum that refocuses the reservoir's role in the history of Singapore, taking cues from the placements of various artefacts around MacRitchie, to create a three-pronged museum and public space to further the importance of MacRitchie in the consciousness of the public.
